N approached Acacia Training in August 2007 to see if there was any way we could help her with her dream of becoming an accountant. It was decided that N could be accepted on to the level 3 NVQ course in accounting. Unfortunately, at the time there was no funding available and despite Acacia's best efforts the only way N could pursue the course was to pay for it herself. This she did and, despite her initial reservations about her ability, she soon settled down to realise her potential and achieve her level 3 and became a fully integrated member of the class. She progressed on to her level 4 NVQ in accounting and has successfully passed her first exam and is well on the way to achieving her full qualification. As a full time mum and student, N has now secured a job as well and is continuing her studies with Acacia Training. N did one year at high school but left and worked for 3 years in Kenya, but then moved to England after marrying someone that was working in England. She took 10 years out to raise her family, but once her children were old enough she decided to go to college. She has completed Level 3 and is now on Level 4. N is enjoying the training but finds it hard work with the family and children but well worth it. She is looking into working in an accountants office. She feels that this course has built her confidence and helped her to look for work. “I have learnt that people who have children can also study and work at the same time”.
