W is a fighter, she has entered into a male dominated work environment and through sheer determination and strength of character she has proven herself to be more than capable and has surpassed all her male counterparts. W’s strength and determination has shone throughout, despite this seemingly daunting workload, she has never been disheartened or given up. W is one of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet. On the many times I have visited her, she has always been polite, friendly and keen to talk about the work she is undertaking and the responsibilities she has been given by her employer. When I left school I worked as a part time Office Worker and at a Call Centre. I started on an Engineering Apprenticeship programme in October 2005. Progressing through a Performing Engineering Operation at level 2, Key Skills at level 2, NVQ in Engineering Maintenance level 3 and a BTEC National Certificate in Electrical Electronic Engineering. I have now progressed to a Higher National diploma in Engineering. I feel that this apprenticeship has impacted on me in various ways. One way is that it gave me something to focus on and allowed me to throw all that I have into completing it. I feel that my confidence throughout has grown immensely and although I have now completed my apprenticeship, I still feel that my confidence will keep growing as everyday a new task or problem can occur.
